SERIEUZE ONDERWERPEN: group exhibition at de boer gallery, Antwerp, curated by Serious Topics, Opening July 11th 2026
de boer and Serious Topics are pleased to present Serieuze Onderwerpen, an exhibition of paintings by thirty American artists. The show takes its name from Serious Topics artist project space in Los Angeles. The program is built around painters whose work earns the description. Most artists are represented by two paintings: a larger work and a smaller one hung on a dedicated salon wall, a nod to Antwerp’s own history as a center of painting.
Artists Include: Amy McCormac, Anne Harris, Annabel Osberg, Charles Karubian, David Humphrey, Elizabeth Tremante, Heather Brown, Jaqueline Cedar, Jesse Wiedel, Joshua Aster, Julian Rogers, Justine Di Fiore, Kristin Calabrese, Lisa Edelstein, Lucas Reiner, Margaret Hahner, Michael Arata, Michiko Itatani, Michelle Fierro, Mike Reesé, Rebecca Campbell, Robert Russell, Salomon Huerta, Shiri Mordechay, Stephen Westfall, Susanna Coffey, Vanessa Conte.
About the curators:
Kristin Calabrese (b. San Francisco 1966, MFA UCLA 1998) and partner Joshua Aster (b. Brooklyn 1976, MFA UCLA 2007) are Los Angeles–based painters and co-founders of Serious Topics artist project space. They also have a stretcher bar company called Stretcher Options, which often provides artists with painting surfaces for their shows with Serious Topics. The space focuses on work they’re passionate about. Their exhibitions have been written about in The Art Newspaper, Artforum, Hyperallergic, 13 Things LA, Artillery Magazine and Whitehot Magazine amongst others. Calabrese and Aster previously curated large group exhibitions for venues including LACE, Honor Fraser Gallery, and The Green Gallery in Milwaukee.
